Mix & Match Blocks: Designing Together
Full Day Workshop (1 or 2 days) |Â In person or Zoom
Design blocks. Swap ideas. Build something uniquely yours.
In this collaborative workshop, students design 6" sub-blocks and combine them into a 9-patch 18" block. Using guided prompts and creative constraints, participants explore rotation, reflection, variation, inversion, scaling, and color play.
Students will:
• Design multiple 6" sub-blocks
• Remix another student’s design
• Build an 18" 9-patch block
• Learn sewing logic and construction order
• Create a piece count list for their block
• Explore simple quilt math concepts
At the end of class, students have the option to swap block designs and take home a collaborative keepsake quilt plan.
Class options:
• 1 day: Design + remix + build block
• 2 days: Design, build block, and begin fabric planning or layout exploration
Perfect for confident beginners and beyond.
Transforming Traditional Piecing Techniques
60-75 min Lecture | Half or Full Day Workshop | In person or Zoom
What if your HSTs and Flying Geese could do more?
This innovative lecture and workshop explores how traditional piecing methods can be transformed by substituting pieced units in place of solid squares. Christina demonstrates how 2-, 4-, and 8-at-a-time HST methods and 4-at-a-time Flying Geese methods can create unexpected dimensional effects.
Students will learn:
• How to substitute pieced units into HST and FG methods
• The structural logic behind these transformations
• Trimming strategy for accurate results
• How different symmetry yields different unit outcomes
• How to use sizing charts confidently
Workshop option includes hands-on practice creating transformed units.
Ideal for adventurous quilters ready to expand their design vocabulary.
From Math to Masterpiece: Designing with Confidence
Lecture | 60–75 minutes | In person or Zoom
In this inspiring and practical lecture, Christina walks through her signature design loop that transforms a simple block idea into a fully realized quilt. You’ll learn how to:
• Develop block designs from scratch
• Use structure to guide creativity
• Break blocks down into elements
• Create a clear piece count list
• Resize blocks with confidence
• Plan fabric efficiently using 42" width-of-fabric logic
Through real quilt examples and step-by-step visuals, Christina shows how quilt math becomes a supportive tool rather than a barrier. This lecture is perfect for quilters who want to tweak patterns, design their own blocks, or finally understand how structure builds confidence.
